Meet our NEW CEO!

We are thrilled to announce a significant milestone in the 30-year journey of Communities In Schools of South Central Texas (CIS). After careful consideration, the Board of Directors has appointed Susan Wetz as our new Chief Executive Officer. We are excited for Susan and the children and families we serve. “I am incredibly honored and humbled to be leading this amazing group of individuals who strive every day to support youth and families in our communities. This responsibility is not taken lightly, and I am so energized by the opportunities ahead,” shared Susan.

Susan began her 29-year CIS career as a Site Coordinator on a campus where she soon moved into a supervisory role ensuring an elevated level of programming. Susan’s professionalism and passion for students helped lead the way from serving four schools to our current 57. After 11 years on campus and having the privilege of creating the initial program, Susan joined the administration team and collaborated and fostered relevant programming and services to support CIS staff and the students and families we serve. These programs include Youth Mental Health First Aid, Signs of Suicide – A Prevention Program, Developmental Relationships via the Search Institute, and our ongoing efforts to provide mental health supports to students.

Susan has served on numerous committees at the National and State levels of CIS to ensure highly integrated and intentional programming for our youth as well as achieving and maintaining rigorous accreditation standards with CIS National and TEA.  She obtained her Master Trainer Certification which allowed her to support the growth and development of a new CIS affiliate and mentor other affiliates in Texas.

Over the years, Susan has served on many community committees such as New Braunfels Chamber Blue Coat, Chair and Committee member of Youth Leadership New Braunfels since 2009, Leadership New Braunfels Class of 2009 and is a 2017 graduate of the Tesoro Leadership Fellows Program. Susan is most proud of her role as a CIS Mentor to two students during her tenure where she is continually rejuvenated by the spirit of our youth!

“Susan Wetz is a great choice to lead Communities In Schools of South Central Texas. She brings tremendous historical insight into the organization and a wealth of institutional knowledge. Susan is as deeply committed to children and the mission of CIS as anyone I have ever seen. She is a staunch advocate for students in academics, behavior, attendance, and especially mental health. As the Board of Directors looked at viable options to lead CIS, we kept coming back to Susan. She is a well known, proven leader in the organization and has shown great dedication during her transition period as the Interim CEO. Susan has a firm grasp and commitment to delegation, trust, and empowerment, which will enable her to lead the team effectively. Please join me in welcoming Susan Wetz as the new CEO of Communities In Schools of South Central Texas,” said CIS Board President Mike Wohlfarth.
